Something you NEED to know

There is always something about documentaries that's so much more then just watching a film. After you finish watching a film you talk, remember and move on sooner or later, whereas a documentary leaves a mark, always. Leaves you thinking about it every now and again. Leaves you wanting to do something - either to help, change you life or just hold the new awareness it has given you with a positive attitude.

This particular documentary made me have all of those points: I hold a new awareness, I want to (and I think I have) change my attitude (and ignorance) on the subject and wanting to help. This documentary is called 'The Cove' and it's left me with a particular need to share the information it has given me - although I had no idea how to express it in as much detail and with the impact it witholds. Therefore; I recommend you watch it. This is something you need to see. What it is about? Dolphins. The man who created the world of 'Flipper' is in regret over what business he has built in the ignorance of innocently making a television programme. Taiji in Japan is capturing and murdering at least 23,000 dolphins every september in hope to make millions. What makes this documentary great is that it captures every horror of what's happening - from the obvious - the greatness in amount of killings and sufferings to the Minamata disease seen before in Japan because of eating the meat from whales and dolphins. The facts and acts towards the protagonist are outstanding and outrageous and the images are terrifying and heart-breaking.

The only way it can be stopped is word of mouth. Making it something to talk about, to scream about and to protest about.

I'll leave this in the desirable hope for you to watch it, an image in hope to stress the situation and a webpage for you to join and help the cause if it suits you.

Day 17

Day 17- Someone you would want to switch lives with for one day and why

This is ridiculously hard! There are a few all for different reasons. The names that come to mind are Mrs. Pankhurst, Dita, Bettie Page but I couldn't pick one - seriously. Although I've always had a dream ever since I found out about the Victorians and all their fantasies, flamboyant ways of living and mysterious when I was about 10 or so, that I'd love to spend a day as a Londoner in that time period. Just to have a feel of what it would be like to smell their smells, walk down their streets and see things truly how they were - not just from pictures in a book.

However; thinking back to the original question it leaves me with a sense I wouldn't be good enough - like Mrs. Pankhurst - I don't think I have half her bravery or courage and in her fight every minute counted. Therefore, I may muck up something really quite substantial (butterfly effect and such). So I'd have to say Dita Von Teese just because she is still living her story - Bettie and Mrs. Pankhurst have their heroic lives written and that's the way it should be. It would be quite good to look in a mirror and see her stare back, having her curves and being small then the giant I am towards her! Plus all the glamourous clothes and places she has and visits would most interesting!

Day 13

Day 13- A letter to someone who has hurt you recently

The problem with this post is that I am rather content with life right now. Yeah - there's things that could happen that would make it better - but then there's always things that could make it worse. This post would almost acknowledge to that person that they have irritated me and therefore affected a part of me. I like to think that the people that hurt you and hate you are just there because everyone clashes and everyone has certain traits that don't match with others, without this in life we'd be zombified and cloned.

Oh actually! Optimism was my short term goal and I believe I have kinda accomplished this, because me four or five months ago would eat this up and a horrible letter would be sitting like a stain on my blog. This goal is now a life-time goal to achieve I believe. Bring it on!

A lovely optimistic quote:

Day 12

Day 12- How you found out about blogger and why you made one

I found out about blogger through Media Studies actually. Anyone that has done the course understands how much they rely on the website. Then m'Shell told me she had one of leisure and I thought it was a really good idea! So here I am, and I'm rather proud of persuading a couple of people to join it too!

Day 11

Day 11- Another picture of you and your friends

Well this one is from the holiday I just came off of today of my Michael and I; we were going out to play pool with my family. Lovely Jubbly.

Day 10

Day 10- Songs you listen to when you are Happy, Sad, Bored, Hyped

This is going to be rather hard as my itunes is rather varied. I'll put two of each :)

Happy-

The first HAS to be a Hanson song - although it became really tough to pick just one song as half of my ipod is of them. Anyway! This one is from their new album 'Shout it Out' which manages to always make me dance in some sorta way and it's also my love of the high hat when playing the drums. Unfortunately I couldn't find the album version, however this is live and you do get to see Mr Taylor Hanson looking rather good - always a plus:

The next one is Glenn Miller - "In the Mood". My Grandad gave my a CD of his four years ago and I became totally obsessed with him! This song in particular makes me forget everything bad and just wanna learn to ballroom dance and shimmy, remembering the days when this was the popular music - wonderful!

Sad -

Mr Jason Lancaster writes the most beautiful, heartbreaking yet heartwarming, dramatic and emotional songs. He is bloody amazing at capturing emotion! He wrote the first album of Mayday Parade and he is now in a brilliant band named 'Go radio' and writes all the songs in that as well. Here's two of his best songs (Warning: These will make you cry!) - 'You Be The Anchor That Keeps My Feet On The Ground, I'll Be The Wings That Keeps Your Heart In The Cloud' and 'Goodnight Moon'

Bored -

I normally go to classical songs when I'm bored because being bored when it comes to the itunes means I have no idea what to listen - classical music is a fresh slate almost. Here's two off my favorites:

This always makes me wanna escape into the wonderfully mysterious world that is Middle Earth:

Hyped -

Well, these are basically two of the songs which are the crowd-pleasing and most defiantly in my top songs for life! they basically explain themselves :

Bon Jovi - You Give Love a Bad Name and Chuck Berry - Johnny B. Goode

There you go!

Just came back off m'holidays!

So I need to catch up with my 30 days and also write a blog about it all :D

Day 09- Something you’re proud of in the past few days

This is from the help of my Michael but to be honest - it's rather true. Over the past days I've been on holiday and the advantage of this holiday means being mixed with totally new people. Myself and Michael were talking about random little things on the beach and somehow got onto this subject - what were we proud of ourselves for? The thing that stood out the most for me was being secure; well more secure then insecure. I've been in a time of my life where I've become both very secure and very insecure to name a few - insecurities: do I "fit in", friends and family changes - securities: I know what I like, who I am, my loves and dislikes.

Both these securities I'm rather proud of, most people I have been surronded by in classes and with previous friends always seemed to hold the same trait and insecurity of doing whatever the media and fashion told them to (what hurts the most was the fact they thought they were different) e.g. cutting hair into boy hairstyles to be different, wide, thick black glasses ("the geek look"), even liking paris and nautical styles they thought was "different", these annoying habits and cling-on's especially with the ignorance of not realising EVERYONE was/is doing it, are rather irritating. However, I have defiantly known what my style is without it being persuaded by fashionistas and magazine articles. Therefore; I'm totally comfortable within what I'm wearing and how I'm looking which many of these fashionistas aren't but put up with for the hope of being accepted. Which makes me rather sad. (But happy cos it's not me :D yay)

Tuesday, 20 July 2010

A couple of days ago I posted a blog about my best friend Korinne and - even though she might hate me for posting this - I would love to advertise her blog she has just started!
http://bluewouldstillbeblue.blogspot.com/
I loves it - but then i'm bias - go look for yourself!

Day 08

Day 08- Short term goals for this month and why

Take more photos - Starting with something I'll enjoy, but for many reasons in the past months I've lacked doing. Therefore, this month I will try to challenge myself with taking as many photos as I possibly can. I suppose the change of location within these few weeks will help me get a range of photos will be very handy as I go to an English seaside on friday, Disneyland Paris in 3 weeks and Lourdes a couple of days after that!

Be more optimistic - Unfortunately I've got myself in a hole, being ok with being pessimistic which isn't exactly great. But in order to not bring people around me down and to smile more I want to raise my spirits and awareness - always a good thing.

READ!! - For A2 starting in September I need to read Captain Corelli's Mandolin, Frankenstein, Dracula, Dr Jeykll and Mr. Hyde and Carol Ann Duffy's 'Rapture'. I've only read fully Dr Jekyll and I'm up to 138 in Captain Corelli's so I'm rather panicing that I won't get it all done because I'm extremely slow at reading!

Day 7

Day 07- A picture of someone/something that has the biggest impact on you

This fortunately leaves me with a few responses, and to be honest I wouldn't want to leave any of them out because that makes me feel like they are unworthy or less then whom I choose to place under this heading. I think the main four would include my Nan, Mum, Michael and Dita Von Teese.

My Nan and Mum are ovbiously the ones that have helped me learn and grow, but the challenges they have brought to me will help me forever and therefore I thank them dearly. Challenges are difficult and annoying in some cases but these ones are only things needed to face, and better off learning them when younger - being able to fall with support of others - then older and less dependent. They also share this overwhelming bubbly personality which can cheer you up even when your most stubburnly annoyed - believe me it's happened many a time!

Michael has been in my life for 2 and a half years and yet has become the most prominant person next to my close household family. The weirdest yet most glad apart of our relationship is the fact my family loves him almost as much as me; in the words of my nan "he's a part of the furniture". As he is the most prominant he's the most annoying, friendly, funny, stupid, clumsy, silly, lovable and happy person I know, and the little things he has done for me is just as good as the big things we've pulled eachother threw - 'cos we know a blooming lot can happen in just two years. Also; Michael - sorry for being the least soppy person ever, loveyou!

Ah, Dita Von Teese. Thanks to her 6years ago (? I think six years ago) she opened up a world of such beauty and magnificance. Little ol' me didn't actually realise what would happen after being told about her. If it wasn't for her I wouldn't have discovered (here comes the lis, hold on guys):

Burlesque
1950's fashion and hair styles
Mr. Pearl
Jaguar S-type 1963
Chrysler New Yorker
Pasties
Stockings
Wiggle Dresses
Elegance
(Cheesecake) Pin Up
Alejandro Jodorowsky
ect.

And what would life be without all that? Actually looking at that list has actually made me realise how much of my life now has been altered after knowing all those things - I like it!

Day 06

Kinda Cheesy Story Alert!

Two and a half years ago Micahel and I were on the phone; awkwardly chatting ect. I had to keep running around from room to room because my house was full of family and one of my close friends, Jennifer was also there. Why was this a problem? Mainly because all the people there are very nosey and any sign of anyone liking someone else they will cling onto for dear life and want to know everything! I could not suffer that torture so when my room was empty I went in there, when the front room was empty - I went there and so on; there was even a time when I went in the bathroom to escape! Anyway, Michael said 'I was like Wonderwoman' flying around everywhere and we some how got onto calling him Superman, and there was a massive time when we kept referring to us as Superman and Wonderwoman, it's still a cool little memory for us anywho, so that'd be why Superman and Wonderwoman are my favorite superheros.

Change of Plan

2 posts ago I said that I would be finally spending a day out with my camera and my Michael finally after ages of wanting but not having time. That did happen - my camera, my michael and I went out. The only thing was that I was not behind the camera; I was in front of it?! This may not seem weird to you; the reader, but for me being quite self-conscious and not proud of my skin I would never have thought any time recent I'd be getting in front of the camera and whatnot. However, saying this, it was a really good day! I did get some photographs myself between the modeling which I still need to edit and play around with myself but Michael has edited his already and uploaded them on his deviantart: www.ekimvonburrin.deviantart.com I like the range he got; for uploading 6 he hasn't kept the same tone throughout - I thought it was quite clever.

Here's a snapshot:

Day 5

Day 05- A picture of somewhere you’ve been to

One of the best places in the whole world. I think I was the happiest girl alive when I went to Disneyland Florida with my grandad, aunt and mum when I was 6. I literally clung to the walls when I was told we had to go back on the airplane! I hope to go back in the near future.

Today

I cleared out my wardrobe in start to clean my room out properly head to toe; to be honest, now I'm regretting it. The phrase 'it looks like a bomb has hit this place' really has been put into practice. I have a clean wardrobe but my room has got rubbish all over it which I'm going to continue tomorrow - looking forward to that! Although the upside is it's like I have discovered this whole new wardrobe because I discovered clothes I has previously loved and forgotten about (or lost) and so now it feels like the moment you come back from a huge shopping trip and have loads of new outfits - it's amazing!

Talking about clothes and I have just recently confessed to being an Ebay addict - I'm not sure if to buy this polka dotted one shoulder playsuit. I've not previously owned a playsuit because I've always seen them as 'not me', however this item is so adorable I fell for it straight away - the only thing stopping me is the fact it's a playsuit. What to do? What to do? Just have to sleep on it I guess!

I am rather excited about the fact after I'm cleaning my room I will be going on a long-awaited photography outing to the cornfields and such-like. Hopefully I'll get some good shots, feels like ages I've taken a couple of hours/a day to just do my photography - too excited! Although I'm still waiting on my Holga 120N camera which I'm praying will come before my holiday next week. Fingers crossed.

Day 4

Day 4 - A habit that you wish you didn’t have

I think I have many but the one that irritates me so much, and yet is the most common, is biting me nails. I will quit and succeed but I have terrible nerves and so when they kick in I fall back into biting my nails which is most frustrating.

Day 3

Day 03- A picture of you and your friends
I was going to put a couple of photos here of friends because I have never got the chance to get one of all of them together but then I decided this one was the best and one of the most important so I'll just dedicate this to my Korinnian :D

Day 2

Day 02- The meaning behind your blog name

See - I can't actually remember now =/ I think it's because I was reading me Disney books and there's a line in wither Beauty and the Beast or Snow white (my two favourite Disney books) that has the line "daydreams in fairytales" in and I thought it was really sweet so I used it :)
Pretty plain and simple as that.

That; and I daydream a lot about fantasy lands so it fit me :)

Insanity

Flake Advert

This advert is amazing; the movement being both elegant and beautiful. I know it could be taken like the perfume adverts that contain no relevance to the object the advertisement it is selling - but in this case I don't think it is. In fact, it's quite clever how they've linked the two through textures. Beautiful.

Day 01

Time

I can't believe it's the 7th July already! It seems just yesterday I was at my Michael scelebrating new year and had no idea what will happen this year. But now the exam and coursework stress has come and gone in the click of a finger, my birthday was over in a heartbeat and now my trip to Lourdes seems so close! (A month to be exact!) This year has gone faster then any other, I swear. It makes me think about how much time I seemed to have wasted on nothing but also how much of my life was work - jeewhiz!

On the up though - one day left of school tomorrow and then it's the summer! Yay. Plus I have a job interview on monday as I passed the first test last week so hopefully I'll become rich soon. :) Wish me luck!
And a nice little quote:
Life Quote Pictures, Images and Photos

The Hobbit

I am rather excited to hear 'The Hobbit' is being produced and directed by the lovely Peter Jackson - I personally believe noone could make the film as good as the book other than him. His image of Lord of the Rings was almost perfect and I think eveyones agreed that it couldn't be a better film. Plus, Ian Mckellan, Andy Serkis and Hugo Weaving are keeping their roles which makes the continiuity perfect - otherwise the story just wouldn't look right. Therefore, little ol' Emily cannot wait to see 'The Hobbit' in 2012. Hurry up these two years!
